Head of HR and Performance, Susie Wilson, explains how Plan offer school leavers opportunities all year round, not just for National Careers Week.
As a local business with nearly 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, we recognise the importance of employing the right people to join our company.
We have found that individuals who have recently left full time education have a thirst for knowledge and are keen to dive in and experience the many opportunities our business has to offer. In the past year we have worked hard to build relationships with local schools and colleges by attending numerous careers fairs to promote our Insurance Foundation Scheme and offering help and advice to those seeking employment with CV workshops and an employability skills presentation.
We developed the Insurance Foundation Scheme in early 2018 to offer college leavers the opportunity to work in all aspects of our business over an 18 month period. This gives the intern an overview of how our business works as well as enabling them to gain an extensive knowledge of the insurance industry. As part of the scheme, we provide funding to enable the intern to complete their Insurance Foundation Test which is a formal Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualification.
Our hope is that at the end of the 18 month period there will be a permanent position available for those that have undertaken the scheme and having gained a broad knowledge of the business from working across multiple departments, they will have gained the skills to undertake any role within the company. We are delighted to say that we currently have 2 employees on the scheme who are flourishing in each department they have been assigned to and have already become valued members of the Plan family.
