Wear it, Beat it – we support British Heart Foundation

Pop Up Blood Pressure Clinic for Black Cab Drivers

At Plan Insurance we normally spend our time arranging quality policies for professional road based businesses. However on February 6th we are joining the WEAR IT BEAT IT campaign in support of The British Heart Foundation.
Heart disease kills 1 in 4 people in Britain each year. The Wear it, Beat it campaign asks people to take part in activities and wear red to raise awareness of this silent killer.

Black Cab Drivers – 10 Minutes could Change Your Life

Taxi Director at Plan Insurance explains why the team were so keen to get involved. “A number of us at Plan have lost members of family due to heart disease. I actually lost my own father to a heart attack. I was completely out of the blue and possibly preventable had symptoms being diagnosed earlier. So when we heard about “Wear it, Beat it” we really wanted to help promote the campaign. It’s a such a simple but effective idea.”
Having high blood pressure could mean you’re more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Unfortunately middle aged adults with sedate occupations maybe more at risk than most. So with the help of a health care professional Plan will be conducting blood pressure tests for London Black Cab drivers. We’ll also be distributing leaflets and collecting donations.
Black Cab drivers look out for our Red Warriors at the Heathrow feeder park. We’ll be offering the tests at Doug’s Dinner, a black cab cafe near Heathrow Airport. The tests will be completely free. However Black Cab Drivers will be encouraged to make a donation towards The British Heart Foundation. We know funds are tight during January for Black Cab drivers also known in the trade as “kipper season.” Though any amount that can be spared will go directly towards the fight against heart disease.
For over 50 years The British Heart Foundation have been at the forefront of pioneering research. Their findings have transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. Their efforts have been crucial to discovering treatments in the battle against heart disease.
You won’t be able to miss the Plan Insurance specialist black cab insurance team at the cafe. They will be encouraging cab drivers to have their blood pressure tested whilst sporting The British Heart Foundation Red Sweat shirts. Even if busy black cab drivers can’t spare time for a test, taking and reading the information could potentially be life saving.
