Plan Insurance Brokers are extremely proud to support Cabbies Do Kilimanjaro’s fantastic fund raising event. They set out shortly to climb both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro and have received backing from people in high places.
Due to the pandemic the gang were unfortunately unable to complete their adventure, which was originally scheduled for 2020. However like true members of the Black Cab trade they have persevered. In the build up to their latest attempt they visited the Tanzania High Commissioner to the UK – Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, the onetime Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations is just as accustomed to formal meetings with the Pope in Rome as she is to sitting down with some of London’s finest taxi drivers.

Cabbies Do Kili were honoured to be invited to the Tanzania High Commission in London to meet with a big admirer of the London Taxi trade, her excellency Dr. Migiro. They had lots to talk about as the High Commissioner originates from a tribe that lives not far from Kilimanjaro and told of how she enjoyed the view of the mountain from her village everyday when she lived in Tanzania. It is such a beautiful country and has many breath-taking World Heritage sites such as the Ngorongoro Crater that the cabbies were lucky enough to take in on their last visit.
Cabbies Daren Parr, John Dillane and new team member Lyndsey Lockhart enjoyed a cup of famous Tanzanian coffee and spoke about their upcoming challenge to climb back to back mountains Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro.
The cabbies will also be going on Safari after (fingers crossed) summiting and enjoying some of the other great attractions this country has to offer like a balloon Safari, the historic Kilwa Kisiwani Island then on to a well earned bit of R&R on Unguja, AKA Zanzibar Island, where no doubt a few bottles of the famous Kilimanjaro beer will be consumed in celebration.
After a very enjoyable afternoon with Her Excellency she offered the country’s full support to Cabbies Do Kilimanjaro in their efforts. We hope the team of Taxi drivers get to the summit on 10th February 2022 and show the world just what London Cabbies are made of, in addition to raising some much needed funds for the London Taxi Charity for Children and the Tanzania Children’s Community Project – Putting smiles on kids faces, and even changing some kids lives for the better.
