Banger Rally raises record breaking funds for charity

This year Bangers4BEN 2016 broke records with over £56K raised!

Each year Car Dealer Magazine host a rally racing event with up to 50 teams competing to raise money for BEN the automotive charity.

This year Plan took part – you may have seen our #BUGETTI splashed on our social media – and had a great time competing to buy a great banger, spruce it up to this year’s ‘Italian’ theme, drive from Dover to Marenello, Italy (and back!) in a round trip of nearly 2,000 miles, before selling the banger at auction.

Andy Entwistle, Managing Director at Blackball Media, the company that publishes Car Dealer, said:

Bangers for Ben has grown to become a real highlight of the UK automotive calendar.

But all the silliness is for a serious cause, with all the proceeds from the event going to help fund Ben’s fabulous work to support thousands of individuals and families connected with the UK automotive industry.

The car that raised the most money at auction for Bangers4BEN 2016 was Will Larmour’s Jurassic Park-inspired Mini Coopersaurus – selling for £1,725.

A close second (selling outside of auction) was Lawgistics Toyota MR2, going for £1,200.

Our Spaghetti #BUGETTI sold for £300 at auction – we were sad to see her go! We wonder where she went and who bought her!

Highlights from this year’s #B4B16

There were great costumes and banger get-ups ranging from Spaghetti to Scooby-Do, Zombies to Dinosaurs, Donuts to Minions.

Kelly Neal, head of events at Ben, said:

This year’s fundraising has raised a record amount and we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the teams who took part and to Car Dealer Magazine.

All the money raised will help Ben support automotive people and their families to navigate life’s toughest challenges and empower them to make lasting, positive change.
