Truck Insurance | Delivered by the Experts

Ryan Georgiades, Truck Plan Insurance’s Managing Director, explains why the company’s customer service means that customers return year after year.

A UK survey last year showed that many people listed as their number one irritation phoning a company and being forced to speak to a machine.”It wouldn’t happen at Truck Plan,” says Ryan Georgiades, the company’s Managing Director. “We know most of our customers on first name terms, and many of them know ours. In fact, they usually ask to the same person every time they call.” This genuinely friendly customer service is pretty much unheard of in today’s huge corporate dominated Truck Insurance market, but not at Truck Plan Insurance. “Although we’re a market leader, we’re still a family run business,” says Ryan, “and our first-class customer service is something that no large corporation could ever beat.”

Take the company’s dedicated Truck Insurance team. “As a company we’ve got over 20 years experience in commercial insurance, and so, for example, our truck insurance department are experts in exactly what their customers are looking for and finding the best deals on truck insurance,” says Ryan. But it’s no accident that that the specialist truck insurance department have such expertise. “As a company, the training of our staff is of paramount importance, across all departments, not just Truck Insurance , and we don’t let our staff anywhere near a customer until they are totally clued up about the area they are working in.”

So a rookie, starting work at Truck Plan Insurance would have a lot to learn, then? “There’s a lot to it, especially an area like Truck Insurance,” says Ryan, who is known affectionately by his colleagues at Plan as ‘the font’ because of his encyclopedic knowledge of the insurance industry. “A new recruit in the truck insurance team would need to know, for example, about the intracacies of a Truck Insurance policy like ‘complete accident management cover’, ‘continental cover’, and ‘multi-vehicle contracts,’ as well as knowing about the vehicles themselves.” Staff training is hugely important at Commercial Plan, but it’s also the customers themselves who help the Truck Insurance team know their stuff. “Our truck insurance customers are very knowledgeable, very discerning, and have lots of experience, so our team have to be up-to-speed!”

Although Commercial Plan look to recruit staff with experience of working in the insurance industry, many come to them without any prior knowledge. “A new starter might not know the difference between haulage insurance and truck insurance,” says Ryan. “But after training begins, they know everything there is to know about Truck Insurance and Haulage Insurance, so can soon tell the difference.” So what is the difference? I ask Laura Young, a relatively new recruit at Truck Plan. “Easy,” she says. “Haulage Insurance is required by anyone who’s solely transporting goods for another person, whereas anybody driving anything over 3.5 tonnes and carrying their own goods – whether it be scaffold or wholesale products – would require Truck Insurance .” It seems the company’s training has worked, and Ryan knows it has. “You don’t stay in business for twenty years in such a competitive industry without offering the best customer service,” says Ryan. “And I don’t think you can get better customer service than at Truck Plan.”
